In some circumstances, where the Police are involved, the Police will identify the person they believe to be the ‘respondent’ and may issue that person with a ‘Safety Notice’, which is a short-term intervention order.
In such circumstances the ‘respondent’ may be required to leave the family home and not have contact with the person who is now referred to as the ‘Affected Family Member(s)’ (AFMs), and that may include children. The conditions in a Safety Notice will apply until the matter is first heard in the Magistrates Court.
